Bonnie has some cousins that live in the north that we were hoping could come join us on our trip. This morning we got confirmation that they were coming and arriving at 11:30. The dolls were up early because they were very excited to meet Bonnie’s cousins. They had extra time before the cousins arrived. So they started exploring the house some more.

They  found this funny looking chair thing at the top of the stairs. Investigation of this curiosity seemed to be in order.

“What a strange place to put a chair” said Bonnie as she climbed up in the seat.

“I like the fact it has a seat belt.” Ellen commented “..seems very safe. But on the other hand, it is a lot of hassle to buckle it. Plus what if you had to get up fast? maybe it isn’t a good safety precaution after all….Debbie look out!! …you almost kicked me in the face”.

” Oops sorry! The seat belt may be safe, but the location isn’t very safe at all!!” exclaimed Debbie as she leaned over the edge and looked below her. “Wheeeeew that is a looooong way down. Maybe it will echo?” Hopefully, she gave her best attempt at yodelling, but to her disappointment no echo came bouncing back.

“What are these dials for?” asked Felicity “Do you have to lock chairs so no one steals them?”

"Why would a chair have a lock on it?" Felicity wondered- a 18" doll story by Stitching with Elli

“Not usually.” Bonnie answered as she leaned way over to try and see. “What does that button do? I didn’t know chairs had buttons.”

Ellen grabbed at both Ellen’s and Debbie’s skirts so they wouldn’t fall over. “Maybe this is a valuable chair?” she suggested. “I don’t know why it would be though. It isn’t very pretty.” None of the others could think why this would be a valuable chair either.

Bonnie climbed down to look at the key and funny lights and buttons with Felicity.

Debbie was leaning way over the edge and asking what that funny looking rail thing was that went from under the chair down the stairs.

Ellen was trying to figure out a logical answer for Debbie’s question.

Bonnie and Felicity were having a technical consultation while pushing buttons and turning the key.

When all of a sudden….

…..the chair started beeping loudly!

“What did you do??” Ellen yelled.

“Is this thing going to explode?? is it a bomb?? Debbie shrieked.

Before the two budding mechanics that had made it go “beep” could reply…the chair started moving.

“Uh oh!” murmured Bonnie. “What did we do?”

“Do you know how to stop this thing!!!” yelled Ellen up to the two at the top of the stairs.

“Don’t worry, Ellen, I’m sure it is safe!” Felicity assured her.

Debbie had decided it wasn’t a bomb. The chair wasn’t moving terribly fast, so she wasn’t too worried. She decided the best thing to do was start singing “So long, farewell
Auf Wiedersehen, adieu…”

Ellen had also decided that the chair wasn’t moving too fast so they probably weren’t going to die. Even though she was concerned about what was going to happen at the bottom…she managed to laugh at Debbie’s high jinks….until Debbie got to the point where she thought she should do high kicks for dramatic emphasis as she sang.

Hey! be careful!! Don’t fall!!  Ellen told her fellow passenger.

“I’m coming!!” Bonnie called to them as she started hurrying down the steps.

“I don’t think you can make it, before we get to the bottom. Do you suppose we are going to crash?”  Debbie called up to her. “I’m okay, Ellen. I’m not going to fall. I have a firm handhold”

“I’m sure it will stop before then!!!!  Felicity called down. “Surely it must. No one would have a chair that races down to the bottom and crashes, would they?”  she murmured to Bonnie so the two on the chair wouldn’t hear. She had joined Bonnie in starting down the stairs in case a rescue was needed. Every one was very anxious as the chair neared the bottom of the stairs.

It stopped gently..and every one breathed a sigh of relief.

“Since we didn’t die or get injured….I guess that was kind of fun.” Said Ellen with a grin as  she unfastened her seat belt and stood up. ” At least now I know why they had a seat belt!”

“Hellllo up there!” called Debbie up the staircase. “How do we get back up?”

“Uh oh! I think we are about to find out!” exclaimed Ellen. “Look out above! clear the track!!”

The chair had started beeping again. Slowly but surely it was climbing back up the stairs. Felicity and Bonnie were in the way of the track. They might get squished!! They scrambled to climb back up before the chair got there.

Everyone got safely up to the top and no one was squished.

“Your turn now!” said Debbie to Bonnie and Felicity ,as Ellen climbed out of the chair. “Can I ride again with them? Do you think it would take three?” she asked Ellen.

“Mmm I think we should just do two.” replied Ellen. “We don’t want to risk three of us being too heavy and breaking it. We don’t want to get in trouble for that!….Where is the floor Bonnie? I can’t find a foothold.”

Bonnie helped her down, then climbed into the chair behind Felicity.

“I think it was that button there. You push it to start the chair.” She instructed Ellen.

“Wow! it is a long way down!” Felicity was looking down the stairwell and getting excited about how far down it was.

“Ooo that must be Alice and Emma!! Help me down!” Bonnie exclaimed……
