Team one had finished their pie and were resting on the couch. Their pie will be tough to top, but Team two is ready for the challenge!! They decided to make their filling first.
Ellen kept a close eye on the recipe. Bridget was ready at the mixing bowl. While Maryellen and Felicity peel and slice the apples.
Maggie wanted to help, so they let her take the stickers off the apples. Those were very sticky stickers! They were sticking all over Maggie!
“Can I have a turn peeling after this one is done?” MaryEllen asked Felicity.
They forgot to have someone cut up the apples into a slice instead of just a spiral..so Ellen tried to cut them up in the bowl.
Then they mixed in the spices. Bridget made very sure to check that it really was nutmeg and not something else. She learned her lesson from last time 😀
Felicity and MaryEllen were discussing how much lemon juice to add.
“At least this recipe calls for lemon juice. There are some people that add lemon juice to recipes that don’t call for it!” Ellen told Bridget.
She then told Bridget about her jam making experience.
The filling was finished and set aside for now. They then started on the pie crust.
MaryEllen and Felicity made it to the right consistency….and then Ellen took over. After all she had practised 😀
She had found a small rolling pin just her size.
It was hard work! but Ellen kept at it and it got bigger and bigger.
Ellen was very insistent that this was going to be a beaaauuutiful pie with a very fancy crust. They worked as a team. Bridget cut out flowers…and butterflies and leaves. Maryellen and Ellen worked on the top and placing things just so. Felicity worked on the edge. Again they didn’t want pictures, so I didn’t take any until it was ready to go in the oven.
“There!” said Felicity stepping back “Are we done? anything we can do to make it better?”
“I think we have enough dough to add two more butterflies,” suggested Bridget “One for each flower?”
“The butterflies look almost like bows. Maybe we could do a little roll of dough for their body?” Maryellen added.
They all agreed those were excellent ideas. This was the final result before it was placed in the oven.
Ellen said she wished the daisys were a little straighter. But Felicity soothed her by telling her they were “crazy daisys”.
The dolls were very happy with how their pies turned out.
Team one with their open face Apple Rose pie.
Team 2 with their lattice work with floral cutout pie (Felicity was attempting to give Ellen a an air high five. But Ellen didn’t really understand the concept and it ended up being a slightly awkward photo)
The final result of a long day baking…
The other dolls were supposed to be the “judges” of whose pie was the best. But…. they declared that since the pies were very different styles, it was unfair to compare them to each other. As far as taste, they were both apple and both equally delicious. So, unless it is to remain a tie…we shall have to depend on the readers to comment their favorite. 😀

Did they use the same crust recipe?

Yes actually 😉 I thought it would make a more fun story line for one team to have it as a “secret ingredient” But actually both pies were made with same crust and filling recipe. Just put together different.

Ellen’s practice paid off. The rose shape is pretty, but this one is over the top. Prettiest pie I’ve ever seen and I have looked for pretty ones.
