“Lea, we have to practice this whole book! I want to learn ALL the Christmas carols.” Debbie told Lea emphatically.

“But Debbie, I don’t think we have time to do them All! It isn’t that easy to learn to play that many songs. We will do as many as we can, though. I don’t have anything else planned for today.”

“Let’s do this one…Angels from the Realms of Glory….” Debbie pointed at the page. She sang while Lea played….
“Angels from the realms of glory
Wing your flight through all the earth
Ye who sang creation’s story
Now proclaim Messiah’s birth

Gloooooooria
In excelsis deo
Gloria
In excelsis deo
Shepherds, in the fields abiding
Watching o’er your flocks by night
God with man is now residing
Yonder shines the infant light
Sages, leave your contemplations,
Brighter visions beam afar;
Seek the great desire of nations,
Ye have seen His natal star;
Come and worship,
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!

Saints before the altar bending,
Watching long in hope and fear,
Suddenly the Lord, descending,
In His temple shall appear:
Come and worship,
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!”
Debbie especially liked singing the chorus. It was fun to sing the looooong drawn out words. She had to ask Lea what the words meant, because she had never heard them before. Lea told her it was another language called Latin and it meant “Glory to God in the Highest”.
Debbie was very impressed that now she knew a foreign language . (She told Nellie about it later, but Nellie said knowing one phrase didn’t count as knowing another language. )
“Well what about sages? What are those? What are contemplations?” Debbie asked.
“Sages just means a very smart person. and contemplation means things they were thinking about . It says “brighter visions beam afar” because Jesus is sooo much better than anything they were thinking about.So they should leave whatever they were working on and come see Jesus.” Lea explained.
After Lea explained some of the other words to Debbie, such as “natal star” (natal means when you were born…so it was saying the star that appeared when Jesus was born.)
Debbie was ready for another song….
“Let’s try this one next…. O Little town of Bethlehem.”
I think she is going to keep Lea busy playing for a while 🙂

I think the First Noel, because it has so many verses and tells the story so well. I’d love to hear Lea play!

My favourite Christmas carol is Silent Night. It’s so peaceful and evokes wonderful memories of past Christmases. I love the traditional carols best of all.
