Felicity and Bridget have been plotting to make their favorite cookies. The problem is their favorite cookies are chocolate drop cookies…which are easy to make. EXCEPT for dolls! The cookies are cooked on the stove which is dangerous when you are only 18″ tall. If Ellen had found out they were going to make cookies on the stove she would have had a fit.
Bridget and Felicity waited until most of the other dolls were busy with other things and then started their cookie caper.
Bridget started by checking the ingredients. “Let’s see, the recipe says we need butter.”
“Check” replied Felicity.
“Coco powder”
“Check”
“Peanut butter”
“Check”
“Oatmeal”
“Check…I haven’t measured it yet though.”
“Milk”
(pause while Felicity checked the refrigerator)
“Check!”
“Vanilla”
“Check”
“Okay, then I think we can get started”, Bridget said. “How are we going to do the cooking part?”
“What if I stand all the way back here?” asked Felicity. “Is that safe?”
“hmm, I think it will be hard to mix it up properly from that far away.” Bridget replied.
“You may be right, but we shall see. Maybe I can get something to bridge the gap.” Felicity said. “I have the sugar and butter in…what else goes in now?”
“Milk!” said Bridget as she consulted the recipe. Felicity at this point decided that Bridget was right and found a solution to being closer to the stove without standing on the stove. She got a cookbook to sit on.
“Milk is added. Are we ready to turn the burner on yet?” Felicity asked.
“No, let’s add the cocoa powder first”, Bridget replied, reaching for the can. She measured out 3 tablespoons.
(Exactly why Bridget thought sitting on top of a pot that was sitting on top of the stove was safer than standing on the stove, I’m not quite sure. But apparently it made sense to her mind.)
“Felicity?”
“hmm?”
“How are we going to explain where these cookies came from after we make them?” asked Bridget.
“Well, Emily never said we couldn’t use the stove. So I don’t know if she would mind. But Ellen would fuss at us for being dangerous. Maybe she won’t know who made them.” Felicity said thoughtfully. “Or is that being sneaky?”
“It does seem a little sneaky” said Bridget. ” Oh well, I guess we will have to tell her if she asks”, she sighed as she measured the peanut butter.
Felicity didn’t answer, because she was concentrating very hard on the pan and stirring.
“You did get a very long spoon so you could stay back away from the fire. It isn’t like we are being completely reckless.” Bridget mumbled to herself.
“How long does it cook?” she asked abruptly as she noticed a few bubbles rising on the side.
“I think it was one minute…let me check…Yes! it was one minute after it comes to a boil” , confirmed Bridget.
“Thanks! It isn’t boiling yet…I’ll keep watching it.” Felicity said.
“It is boiling!” Felicity announced in a little bit.
“Starting the timer!!” Bridget said as she twisted it carefully to make sure she didn’t set it for 5 minutes by accident.
It boiled for one minute, and then they added the rest of the ingredients.
Then it was time to form the cookies.
“Mmm, Yummy! I can’t wait to eat them!” said Bridget staring longingly at the cookies.
Here are the finished cookies!! Hopefully Ellen won’t fuss at the girls to much if she finds out. After all they did try to be careful. 😉
Have any of you made this kind of cookie before? What is your favorite kind of cookie?

What a cute post. Emily and Bridget your aprons are so pretty and cute. Since I an allergic to chocolate and nuts ,my cookies have to be vanilla mostly.

Aww that is a sad thing to be allergic too, but I am partial to vanilla myself. I love chocolate but need milk with it. I think one of my favorite ones is a cookie made with vanilla cake mix then dipped in sugar and cinnamon. It does have a half a pecan pushed in the middle…. but it that was left out maybe you would like them!

Your dolls are such good problem solvers. And so ambitious and energetic. For Christmas, spritz cookies seem the most necessary . And they are fun or frustrating to make depending upon? The cookie press is a fun tool. Can the girls make those?

my favorite are butter balls …they have chopped up walnuts in them and once they come out of the oven, you roll them in powdered sugar, i think it has a fancier name but as kids we always called them butterballs.

Yes, those are good. My handed down recipe for “butter balls” says Mexican tea cakes and I’ve also seen them as Russian tea cakes. Very international..

Emily: I love the Christmas dresses the girls are wearing. I wish I had the creative talent and ambition you have….but just looking does inspire me. Are the apron designs from Embroidery Library or Hatched in Africa? or???? Hugs Linda in So Calif.
