This morning I finished a new gardening apron for Josefina. I told her we would have to wait until later to take pictures of it, because it was overcast and threatening to rain. She said that was okay but could she wear it to go play with her friend Heidi? I agreed and she scampered off to go play outdoors with Heidi. I didn’t stop to think what they might be planning to do….Until I looked out my window and saw this…..

What are those dolls up to??

“Heidi! What are you and Josefina doing?….”We are…(umph!! ooph!!)… We are trying to get the flower garden planted before. (ooo ooooooph!) …before it rains.”

She was trying to lift some flower pots that were almost as big as she was…which counted for the “umphs” and “oophs.

“If we don’t get the in now it will be too muddy after it rains.” Said Josefina setting down the wheelbarrow with more flowers.

“Do you need any help?” Said I. It seemed like the logical thing to ask. Dolls can do a great many things but they have to work harder at it than people do. After all most things aren’t made “doll sized” so some things become a little more complicated when you are that short.

Josefina had moved on to pulling up the weeds….while Heidi was trying to decide where the flowers should be planted

“No thank you. I think we can manage fine.  Heidiiii can you rake while I pull up the weeds?”

I was still slightly concerned that Josefina might fall over backwards while tugging on a weed.  I decided to hang around in case they changed their mind about needing help.

Next Josefina got out the shovel and started digging the holes. (I think she rather enjoyed that part)

Who will get their flower in the ground first? Heidi or Josefina?

After they had each got a few flowers in the ground I pointed out the fact that if I helped just a little bit….then for sure the flowers would get in the ground before it rained. I think they were tired because they readily agreed. After we got the all planted Josefina posed for me to show off her new apron. She did a excellent job of keeping it clean!
